The Brookens family was nominated by their friend Kim Cross (Who just happens to be my Give away winner from last year!). Here is their story:

“Thanks Kim Cross for nominating us, The military is very important to  my family… and very much a part of who we are.  This month last year was when my husband came home from a 9 month deployment to Afghanistan and was his third deployment but our first with a family… My husband has been in the military 13 years and has been deployed to iraq 3x and Afghanistan once.  This last tour was especially hard for him im sure, becuase he had to leave our then 10 month old daughter behind, missing her walking, and talking for the first time as a father. In addition to my husbands current service, I myself am in the military as well.  We are both in the Delaware National Guard.  I have been in the military and continue to serve for the past 12 years including a year long tour to Iraq myself.  I have been both a Soldier and a spouse at home and they are both with their own unique challenges.  Our family has been blessed with not only our now 2.5 year old beautiful daughter Madison whom you see in the picture which was taken on his homecoming day last year, but we are excited to welcome our second daughter Cora who was just born 29 August!!  We are sooo head over heels in love with them both and although it is hard to be away from them sometimes, its important to show them the honor it is to serve your country proudly, and we both plan to continue serving for many years to come.  We are very honored to have been nominated in this great way to honor the troops and are excited at the opportunity to take pictures with our whole family to welcome our new addition 🙂 Thanks for everyones votes, and we hope you are enjoying the cooler fall weather! – Alexis”
