Andy has been serving proudly since 1992. When you “sign the dotted line” you don’t sign alone, your family signs with you. Our girls have “signed” their entire life and don’t really “cry” about it. They understand their father is serving a purpose much bigger the himself and our family.
I have attached our last formal family picture taken over three years ago and our last picture taken in April at the end of his deployment ceremony.
Andy has been deployed since early April 2013 which he is still on. It is hard, very hard at times especially when you miss all those things you look forward to with your kids. During this time he has missed so many life events with his family. First he missed our oldest daughter’s 18th birthday. Soon after her graduation from high school (something every family works to see happen, the closure of their school years). Next came her moving to college. This was all topped off by missing our youngest get her driver’s license, inducted into the National Honor Society and soon to be her 17th birthday. He’s missed my brother’s wedding, the birth of our newest nephew and a chance to say good bye to a nephew and his family who was moved to a new base with the Navy/Marines. Not to mention his birthday, my birthday, our anniversary, Thanksgiving, Christmas and soon New Years.
Time is something that can’t be given back, memories can be captured. Due to circumstances and timing we weren’t about to have our pictures done before Andy left (something on that to do list). Getting our pictures done when he returns would be a “starting point” to the next phase of our life. Andy left the father of a high school senior and sophomore and will return to a daughter finishing her freshman year in college and the other completing her junior year in high school. Time with our precious “babies” is running out…. We like a chance to capture it at least one last time.
Getting this opportunity would be a wonderful gift to give to my Hero, who wears dog tags and not a cape.
