“Hi, My name is Melissa Brown, and I am married to the love of my life, Calvert Brown.  I met Cal in college 15 years ago. Upon graduation from college, he brought up that he wanted to be a commissioned officer in the United States Army. Knowing that this would end up being a career for him, I said that I would support him in anything he wanted to do. Cal and I got married in August of 2007 and with a pending deployment to Iraq in the future, we decided to start a family right away. In August of 2008, Ava was born. Just a short 6 weeks later, Cal’s deployment began with pre-deployment training and then deploying to Iraq.  Having missed the first year of Ava’s life minus several choppy Skype interactions, Cal returned home in September of 2009. On that same day, Ava took her very first steps! Three years later, we welcomed Gianna into our lives.  Currently Cal is a Captain for the Army National Guard and works out of Elizabethtown, PA every day.  He was fortunate enough to be offered a job in the Active Guard and Reserves (AGR) program and not have to search for a job upon returning from deployment.  His commute is 85 miles each way every day.  He is also pursuing his MBA and will be finished in February.  So on top of working full time, commuting and being a father and husband, he is working toward furthering his education with his MBA and also taking several military classes to aide in advancing his rank with the military. I also work full time as an Occupational Therapist at a school for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Philadelphia. Combining our busy schedules along with dance classes for the girls, makes it virtually impossible to find time to get a family portrait done. Having the opportunity to have Jennifer capture our family as a unit would be amazing and we will definitely make the time to have it happen!”
